This cute penguin magnet is laser cut from wood and adorned with a layer of Shweshwe, a traditional South African 100% cotton printed fabric known for its vibrant colours. Designed to resemble the African Penguin, also known as the Cape Penguin or South African Penguin, it captures the charm of this species that inhabits the coastlines of South Africa and Namibia. These penguins are recognised for their distinctive black and white plumage, unique black facial mask, and pink patches above their eyes. Standing about 60-70 cm tall and weighing between 2.2 and 3.5 kg, they have an endearing waddle, are adept swimmers, and primarily feed on fish and squid. Their loud, donkey-like bray has earned them the nickname “jackass penguins.” Unfortunately, they are endangered due to threats like oil spills, overfishing, and climate change.
