The distinctive features of these small and slender meerkats, including their long, thin legs, pointed faces, and very long tapering tails, are meticulously hand-carved from the fallen branches of non-native Jacaranda trees, renowned for their soft and sustainable wood. Intricate details, such as the dark patchy eyes, mouths, tips of the tails, and little claws, are burnt into the wood using a red-hot wire tool, enhancing texture and depth. This meticulous, machine-free process ensures each carving is a unique work of art.

These delightful miniature meerkat carvings come with a charming, removable red ribbon around their necks and a string for hanging, yet they can also stand on their own. Ethically Hand-Carved in Zimbabwe by Jacarandell African Carvings

Jacarandell African Carvings is a small co-operative carving business based on a farm near Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The three carvers at Jacarandell create functional art from Jacaranda wood. Donald Sibanda specialises in spoons, spatulas, salad servers, and knives. Ndubeko Ndlovu excels at carving African animals, bird decorations, door stoppers, and boards. Brian Ndlovu skilfully carves boards, door stoppers, nativity sets, and Christmas animals. Frances Randell manages the business, handling product design, sourcing materials, marketing, networking, and quality control. The carvers are paid per completed product at a fairly negotiated price. Despite many challenges over their 25 years of operation, they have persevered with grit and determination. We are proud to introduce the creative talent of Jacarandell. Their animal carvings are unique and individual.
