Description
With their rich swirls of contrasting colours, these Woven Telephone Wire Bowls showcase a blend of traditional Zulu craftsmanship and modern materials. Unlike traditional grass basket-weaving, which starts from the bottom up, these bowls are woven from the top down. The process begins with a thick galvanised wire rim at the top, with each wire pulled taut against a form to create the bowl’s shape. While recycled wire is not used due to its lower quality, weavers now use annealed steel core wire that mimics the appearance of multi-coloured telephone wire, all manufactured in South Africa. This wire is more economical and is custom-manufactured in special colours using some recycled and all lead-free materials, ensuring both quality and sustainability.
These woven bowls are not only visually stunning but also highly durable and versatile. They make perfect accent pieces for home decor, adding a splash of colour and cultural flair to any room. Use them as stylish storage solutions for jewellery, keys, or other small items. Additionally, they make thoughtful and unique gifts that carry cultural significance and support traditional Zulu craftsmanship. Whether for personal use or as a special present, these bowls are sure to impress and delight.
PLEASE NOTE: Each piece is one-of-a-kind, with designs and colors that vary due to the handmade process.
